Common Nouns

Common Noun is a word that names unspecific person, place, thing and animal in which it is not capitalized

Note:

the word “theatre” refers to a space which does not name a single and unique place where, for instance, we carry out an artistic show; by contrary, it basically names a class of individual or single places in which they are recognized. It is a generic name of place.

Example

The word ‘city’ represents a class, set, or category of single entities such like London, Washington, Paris etc.   

Here are some common nouns for: 

People: dentist, lawyer, friend, farmer, plumber, judge, singer,teacher, man, baby, aunt, actor.

Places: airport, library, farm, hotel, house, theatre, zoo, market, school, stadium, gym, factory.

Things: truck, train, television, printer, lamp, table, ruler, book, cake, bed, window, radio, cot.

Animals: cat, cow, crocodile, bear, dog, dolphin, hen, horse, parrot, shark, zebra, bird, duck, fox.

Proper Nouns

Proper Noun is a word which names specific person, place, thing and animal. It is always capitalized.

Example

The word ‘John’ signals a single people; that is, it is used to separate a person from other people and give him an own identity which is the name ‘John’, so it is specific name  of person.

Here are some proper nouns for:

People: Ali Baba, Professor John, Robin Hood, Mrs. Taylor, Dr. Lee, Aladdin, Beethoven, Jose.

Places: London Waterloo, Paris Orly Airport, Germany, the Sydney Opera House, Buckingham Place, India, the Elephant Caves.

Things: Ford Mondeo (a specific name of a car), Toshiba (a particular name of a laptop), Volvo FH 16 (a specific name of a truck).

Animals: Joe (a specific name of an ant), Max ( a particular name of a dog), Kitty ( a specific name of a cat).
